Saturday 21st, as the grand finale, the "Petrolux Orchestra", and its big Parade… A urban cabaret with musicians, acrobats, jugglers, stilt walkers…A type of infernal machine about to explode will cross the streets and join the stage to the sound of the Petrolux with circus artists. A street show, a concert, a flamboyant, surprising, explosive curious cabaret…
All week, three funny ladies will walk in different places, from the station…... three strange characters, "the Nikkis of Cie Colbox", street comedians, create as each on passes by, a surprising and very friendly atmosphere...

The World Cup Finals is also the party in Méribel-Mottaret with the FIS snow football tournament on Wednesday evening where the coaches, trainers and journalists compete in a very relaxed atmosphere.
Not to be missed, the Village "Les Allues" invite you Wednesday and Thursday between 4.30pm and 8pm to celebrate very traditional village moments, with wine tastings, hot breads baked in the village oven, folklore and traditional songs, and a giant tartiflette on Friday evening.

Check in on the Top Athletes before Äre and Kranjska Gora!13/03/2015The season 2014/2015 Alpine Skiing draws to a close in a week with, for the first time, the organisation of the #meribelworldcup Finals in France in Méribel.

Never (since the beginning of the Alpine Skiing World Cup Tour in 1967) has a season be up in the air as this one. Either men's or women's, the general classification of the World Cup is still to be decided !

On the women’s side, the fight for the big crystal globe is very tight with only 40 points separating the Slovenian Tina Maze and the Austrian Anna Fenninger. Advantage is still towards the “Milka Girl” who will be running in every race.

- Looking towards the speed disciplines, the 2 small globes in the Downhill and Super G will be played between two chart toppers, American Lindsey Vonn and the Austrian Anna Fenninger.
- For these so-called “technical” events nothing is decided! The last giant slalom and slalom of the season in Åre, Sweden will shake out the current status of the different leaders of each of these disciplines (Aly, Brem, Shiffrin, Hansdotter). They may all yet pick up the small globe in their specialty during the last race, here in Méribel!

Among the men, "Overall" globe, which rewards the best athlete of the season, will seemingly go straight tothe Austrian Marcel Hirscher who has dominated this 2014/2015 season.

- On the Downhill, the Austrian veteran Hannes Reichelt (age 35), is catching up quickly to the Norwegian Kjetil Jansrud. With only 30 points separating them everything will play out on the Méribel slope! For the Super G, this same Norwegian should win the small globe, for the first time in his career.
- In the technical events, next weekend in Kranjska Gora (SLO) will allow us to see a little more clearly amongst the 'top' athletes of the circuit. They are as close as sardines in a box right now.
- Marcel Hirsher still seems to be in a good position to win his second globe in Giant Slalom (after 2012) ahead of the American Ted Ligety and French Alexis Pinturault.
- For the slalom, German Félix Neureuther is the top at the moment. Followed by Hirscher and German Döpfer. Many points will still be distributed between Kranjska Gora and Méribel.

The end of season promises to be very exciting. A season very full, with the World Championships which took place in Vail/Beaver Creek during the first fortnight of February. The physical freshness of each athlete will be a very important to successfully perform at the end of this winter season.

FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup Tour : last events18/02/2015# The Season 2014/2015 grid of the "Top 5 global Men & Ladies”:
Following the World Championships which were held jointly between Vail and Beaver Creek last week, let’s take a moment to see where we are at in the 2014/2015 season which will end in less than a month in Méribel for the World Cup Finals.

From a general point of view, all the 'top stars' circuit held on to their ranking. On both the ladies and the men’s side, the worldwide rankings didn’t move much.

# Overall ranking - Ladies:
With almost 200 points ahead of its rival Austrian Anna Fenninger, Tina Maze already seems poised to soar to a new victory in the overall standings of the World Cup. The 31-year-old Slovenian has placed in 'the top '5' of all disciplines which demonstrates her versatility and her capacity to adapt to the various races. Maze hinted, just after the World Championships Slalom race, that she may take a break next season.

# Overall ranking - Men:
For men, the Austrian Marcel Hirscher appears also in a very good position to hang on to his title and win a 4th overall crystal globe. Indeed, with almost 200 points ahead of Norwegian Kjetil Jansrud (the ' boss' of speed on this season) and his 1st place worldwide ranking in the Giant Slalom; the Austrian has plenty of weapons in his arsenal to get an overall win in Méribel.

# French Team :
For the "Frenchies", we should note Alexis Pinturault who is currently fourth place in the overall standings. Solid in the Giant this year, he still lacks regularity and consistency in the slalom. His work on his speed during the summer season on the Argentinean glaciers, allowed him his first win in the Super Combined in Kitzbühel on January 23. There is also Victor Muffat-Jeandet, 11th place overall, which demonstrates his excellent season in Giant (currently 7th in the overall ranks for this discipline) and the very nice races by Guillermo Fayed currently the 3rd overall in the Descente.

The French women’s team, on the other hand, has suffered one of his worst seasons. Lack of aggressiveness, loss of confidence, lost bearings; not a single French woman made it into the  'Top 15'... A season to forget, and quickly!

# What highlights to remember from the World Championships 2015 in Vail/Beaver Creek?
- In a few words, the beautiful performance of our French team - 3rd place for Adrien Theaux (Downhill), 3rd place for Alexis Pinturault (Giant) and World Champion Title for Jean-Baptiste Grange (Slalom) and the fiasco of our French woman with only a 9th place finish for Nastasia Noens (Slalom).
- The supremacy of Austria with five titles gleaned of the eleven distributed. They finished top of the competition, with 9 medals. The French and Swiss tied; each with one gold medal and 2 bronze medals.
- Lindsey Vonn (USA) was sorely missed in the rankings. Vail did not give her a home advantage, but rather disappointing results. She spent more time complaining of the icy run and her knee problem than focusing on the races.

# The Next Step?

Volunteers: the cornerstone of the event16/01/2015All organizers of major events are aware of the force that volunteers represent: a precious asset, a real 'human resource' in the proper sense of the term, which guarantees the smooth running of each event.

The World Cup Finals in Méribel are no exception to the rule: the multitudes of positions to be occupied by the volunteers are all of the same importance, whether at the welcome points, on the track or in the preparation and disassembly. The recruitment phase is nearing its end; the first days of the year 2015 were devoted to the distribution and allocation of posts. This essential task requires knowing perfectly the nature and characteristics of each mission to define the profile of the volunteer who will be able to complete the mission. The knowledge of men then mingles with the knowledge of the terrain; this delicate exercise requires a strong sense of balance, to avoid encountering difficulties the day of.

Let's go back to this key moment behind the scenes of the organisation.

If there are still 2 good months before entering the heart of the matter, we can say that the enthusiasm for the event on the part of the volunteers is already a success. Indeed, Clément LECLERCQ and Blandine RETY, who are in charge of the management of volunteers, received numerous solicitations, from the Valley and the whole France. Over 600 people asked to volunteer at the event, a number never before seen in Meribel! Needless to say that we are very pleased with this craze and this spontaneous generosity, which reflect the confidence of our most loyal and hardworking volunteers, but which also highlights the wish of many people who had previously never been volunteers in Meribel to embark by our side in this adventure and give us their time and expertise at the service of this great event... If we believe in signs, the interest on the part of the volunteers indicates we will have a large public and a beautiful week of competitions.

The entire organization would like to thank all those who came forward to offer their help. This outpouring of generosity has moved us and leaves us confident that we will conduct the finals with serenity. The flip side of this generosity is the hard choices which we were forced to make: it is unfortunately impossible to respond positively to all the nominations, despite the diversity of the solicitations. All those who will cannot be part of the volunteer team this time; we invite you to join us as a spectator!

And for the 300 volunteers who will come and lend us a hand on the ground from 16 to 22 March, our motto "All together in the Heart of the Finals”!

The Final Stretch J- 60!16/01/2015Only two months left of intense preparations before the start of the 2015 Alpine Skiing World Cup Finals in Méribel!

The Organizing Committee’s schedule is getting fuller and fuller: between site checks, meetings with all the partners and suppliers, internal coordination meetings, safety meetings; there is not a minute to spare in organizing this large project.

Small questions begin to arise particularly about the snow level. At the moment, we are confident about the slope, but we must stay vigilant in the coming weeks to manage the production and the preparation of this white gold. The goal is to create a very compact base with wet snow. The orientation of the slope as well as the date of the competition means we must respect a very precise protocol.

More generally, this last phase of preparation allows all committees (Communication & Marketing, Finance, Sports, Logistics,..) to fine-tune the details and minimize unforeseen events on the day of.  All the parts of organizing a major international event are falling into place. It is, of course, the role of the Organizing Committee to coordinate all these commissions and make the decisions. We must be aware of everything in order to have a global and generalist view. As we get closer to the date, the questions we will be treating will be 'normally' less and less strategic.

The preparation phase will be completed in 40 days. We will then pass a so-called "Operational" phase where we will be much more present on the ground to start transforming the Chaudanne plateau in a arrival zone for the World Cup.

The objective to meet: everything in place for Sunday, March 15.

Autumn 2014: Notes on the organisation01/09/2014Autumn is a strategic and busy time in the organisation of a winter event with FIS meetings in Zurich and piste visits from various officials and TV crews. With back to back meetings and service providers to organise, the majority of decisions are taken before the start of the season.

We are in the process of confirming the finish area layout at the Chaudanne, a tough job as everything needs to be set up as quick as possible during the last week of the school holidays to avoid complaints from holidaymakers. As soon as the event finishes, the Chaudanne will be back to normal practically overnight.

Main media strategies are in place, we are looking for additional sponsors, and the official programme “Méribel Emotions” is being finalised. Additional info can be found on

Concernant la partie administrative, la priorité du moment est le lancement des accréditations. Plus de 1000 laissez-passer seront délivrées pendant cette semaine pour les VIP, les media, les coaches, les athlètes et les bénévoles.

As for admin, the big job at the moment is accreditations. More than 1000 passes will be handed out to VIPs, media, coaches, athletes and volunteers. At time of going to press, we are 4 months from the start of play. Pressure is slowly rising but all is going well. We are working to bring together all the different elements of the event and every aspect is thought out to avoid surprises during the event itself.

World Cup Season Opens in Sölden: a good start for Méribel.27/10/2014For the 15th year running, the Austrian resort of Sölden had the honour of opening the alpine season. A welcome return for pros, fan clubs but also for the Méribel organisers hosting the Finals on the 15th-18th March. Back now to Austria for a de-brief…

Just days before the event, a lack of snow threatened the Giant Slalom races. Thankfully, good things come to those who wait, and great snow conditions and sun made an appearance just in time. Members of Méribel’s 2015 organising committee were there, publicising the finals to the numerous journalists present, and also meeting FIS members and media giant INFRONT to talk preparation.

Christophe Mugnier, head of the organising committee tells us more :
" It is essential for Méribel to be present and visible…communication and public relations are very important for events and all the people we need to see come to Sölden for the start of the season. It also allows us to see how other resorts do things, pick up tips and learn from their mistakes… "

Méribel’s large presence in Sölden shows the resort’s cohesion and team spirit surrounding the Finals, with members of council, businesses and ski fans joining forces.

The races themselves did not disappoint, with Tessa Worley back after a year out, taking 7th place on a hard course. As for the men, 3 French racers finished in the top 10 and Alexis Pinturault took his first podium of the season, which certainly bodes well for his chances in Méribel!

There is still a long way to go before then, and this World Cup season is set to be a great show. Méribel can’t wait to finish it off in style!
